Tell us a little about yourself. What do you do, where do you live? How old were you when you first started cycling and how did you get started?

I live in Hove a small town close to Antwerp, Belgium. I work as community manager for GFNY, GFNY is a Company that organize Granfondos all over the world. I was 14 when I started cycling. Before the age of 12, Ii played soccer, but going to boarding school and not being able to join training during the week, which resulted in not being allowed to play during the weekend, made me stop. At that point my dad was riding his bike with friends and that way I got my first race bike and did my first rides.

What was/is the most challenging thing about cycling for you?

The biggest challenge in the past was probably the weather. Training in bad weather wasn’t always easy, but you need to ride to get a better shape and get some good results.

What is it about cycling that connects/inspires you?

What I love about cycling is that it’s a sport for everybody, the most trained and talented, over the average amateur cyclist till the newbie. You buy a bike, ride and you will always find someone who has the same level like you. What I also love is that cyclists have this special connection, 2 people who have a totally different jobs or lifestyles, who meet for a Sunday ride…what else do you need?

How does cycling impact your life?

Cycling has been a big part of my life already, which makes it something important as well. Because of the bike I was able to travel, do amazing races at the craziest locations and meet people who became friends. At this moment I am very happy that I can share my passion for cycling with other riders and guide them where needed. I could say that it’s a blessing that I changed soccer for cycling. I wouldn’t have been able to reach the same if I kept playing soccer.

Where has been your favorite place to ride?

It’s a difficult question to answer, I have been to many beautiful locations where I have many amazing memories. The best answer that I can give is that every location will give you something special, something you will remember for the rest of your life. It’s up to you to find that beautiful moment on the bike which makes a place your favorite place. You don’t even need go far to find that favorite place, it can even be on your daily ride.

What 3 words would you use to describe cycling?
